# Selling Pottery Class Gift Cards for the Holidays

A class is a good gift. It is an experience, it is handmade, and the recipient comes to your studio. For studios, gift cards are cash upfront, and they bring in new students who may never have found you otherwise.

Start early. Gift buyers search in November and December, so aim to have your offer live by mid-November.

## What to sell

* **Fixed-value cards.** An amount toward any class.
* **Specific classes.** A beginner wheel course or a one-off workshop.
* **Experiences.** A date night or small group party. See [how to run pottery parties](/blog/run-pottery-parties-and-private-events/).
* **Memberships.** A month of open studio for someone who has already done a class.

Fixed-value cards are easiest to manage. Specific classes are easier to give.

## Price and bundle

* Keep the price points simple.
* Consider a small bundle, such as a class plus materials.
* If you offer a bonus, such as extra value for larger cards, set the rules clearly.
* Check [how you price your memberships and classes](/blog/pottery-studio-membership-pricing/) so cards match.

## Set the rules before you sell

Gift card rules differ by place. Some regions limit expiry dates or require certain wording, so check what applies to you. Then write down:

* **Expiry.** How long the card is valid, if at all.
* **Refunds.** Whether unused cards can be refunded.
* **Transfers.** Whether the card can be given to someone else.
* **What it covers.** Classes only, or materials and firings too.
* **Lost cards.** How you replace them.

Put these on the card or the order page.

## Gift card wording ideas

Short lines to adapt for your cards:

* "An evening of clay, and a mug to take home."
* "Give the gift of making something with your hands."
* "One class at [Studio]. Come as you are, no experience needed."
* "For someone who deserves a quiet hour with clay."

Add a space for the recipient and giver, and a line telling them how to book.

## How to deliver

* **Physical card.** Printed and handed over or posted.
* **Digital card.** A PDF or email with a code, good for last-minute buyers.
* **Both.** Offer a digital option plus a small printed card in a envelope.

## Redeem easily

* Keep a record of every card: code, value, buyer, date and balance.
* Mark a card used when it is redeemed, and record any leftover balance.
* Explain how to book the class when the card is sold.
