How to Join a Pottery Studio With a QR Code
If your studio has a Claybook flyer on the wall, you do not buy a personal plan first. You scan the QR code, create an account, and redeem the studio invite. Lessons, practice, and piece logging unlock for members on that studio’s offering.

What you get when you join
After a successful redeem you can:
- Use Learn lessons and quizzes
- Use Practice exercises
- Log crafts, clays, surfaces, and photos
- Use the weight and shrinkage tools
You will see the studio name on the Tools tab once you are a member. That is your confirmation that the invite stuck.
Step-by-step: scan the flyer
- Install Claybook from claybook.studio
- Open the Tools tab
- Tap Join your studio (or the scan row)
- Allow camera access if the app asks
- Point the camera at the flyer QR code
If you are not signed in yet, Claybook asks you to create an account first, then continues the redeem. Use an email you will still have next term.
If you opened a studio link instead of the wall flyer
Some studios text or email a join link. Open it on your phone. Claybook should open to the same redeem flow with the studio already selected.
If the link opens in a browser, install the app, then open the link again so it can hand off.
Account first, then redeem
Joining a studio is attached to a Claybook account. That is how your library can sync and how the studio membership is recognized.
If you already use Claybook solo, sign in with that same account before you scan. You keep your existing crafts. The studio membership adds access. It does not wipe the journal.
After you join
- Confirm the studio name on Tools
- Add the clay bodies on the studio shelves (see How to Add a Clay Body in Claybook)
- Save the glaze buckets you will actually dip (see How to Track Glazes and Surfaces in Claybook)
- Log the next piece you make, even if it is a practice cylinder

Troubleshooting
The QR code will not scan. Add light, hold steadier, or ask the studio for the link. Dirty plastic sleeves on wall flyers are a common problem.
I scanned but I am still locked. Finish account creation. Then open Tools and check that the studio name is there. If it is missing, scan again while signed in.
I used the wrong email. Contact support from the app rather than creating a second empty account if you already logged pieces.
My studio does not have a flyer. Point them at claybook.studio/studios. Setup is a flyer on the wall. The studio does not pay. Members do not pay for the studio unlock.
For teachers and owners
Members learn faster when the flyer is next to the wheels, not in a welcome email they never open. Pair join day with a five-minute “log your first cylinder” habit so the app is not theoretical.
