This Privacy Policy explains how Mario Iannotta ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Claybook mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms of Service, unless otherwise defined here.
1. Who we are
The data controller responsible for your personal information is Mario Iannotta, operator of Claybook. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at info@marioiannotta.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in the following ways:
Information you provide
- Account information: email address when you sign in with a magic link.
- Profile information: username and profile photo (avatar), if you choose to add them.
- User content: craft logs, notes, photos of your pottery, custom clays, shapes, surfaces, and learning progress you save in the app.
- Support communications: information you send when contacting us.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app data: device type, operating system, app version, and general diagnostic information.
- Usage data: how you interact with the Service, such as lessons started or completed and features used.
- Identifiers: a Firebase user ID, an anonymous or authenticated app identifier, and analytics identifiers.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active Claybook Pro entitlement (we do not receive your payment card details).
Information stored locally
If you use Claybook without an account, some data is stored only on your device. If you create an account, eligible data may be synced to our servers so you can access it across devices and after reinstalling the app.
Photos and camera access
With your permission, Claybook can access your camera or photo library so you can attach photos to crafts or set a profile avatar. Photos you upload may be stored on your device and, when you use an account, in Firebase Storage for backup and sync.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Sync and back up your data across devices;
- Process and manage Claybook Pro subscriptions;
- Understand how the Service is used and improve it;
- Respond to support requests;
- Protect the security and integrity of the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal information on the following bases:
- Contract: to provide the Service you request, including account, sync, and subscription features.
- Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and improve the Service, and to prevent abuse.
- Consent: where required, such as for optional permissions or certain analytics, which you can withdraw through device settings or by contacting us.
- Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate Claybook, when required by law, or to protect rights and safety.
Our main service providers include:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, and file storage (Privacy)
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management (Privacy)
- Amplitude — product analytics (Privacy)
- Apple App Store / Google Play — in-app purchases and subscription billing (Apple Privacy, Google Privacy)
These providers process information on our behalf according to their own privacy policies and our instructions where applicable.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
Claybook Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google through their respective app stores. We use RevenueCat to verify subscription status and unlock Pro features. We do not collect or store your payment card details. Purchase history, billing, and refunds are handled by the store provider under its terms and privacy policies.
7. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business purposes, including backup, security, and legal compliance.
- Account data: retained while your account is active.
- After account deletion: we delete or anonymize your account data from our systems within a reasonable period, except where we must retain information to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
- Local-only data: remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Analytics data: retained according to our analytics provider's settings and our internal retention practices.
8. Data security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including countries where our service providers operate. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms offered by our providers.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your personal information;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Receive a portable copy of certain information;
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Account and data deletion
You can delete your data as follows:
- Account holders: open Claybook → Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, cloud data, and local app data.
- Without an account: open Claybook → Profile → Delete data to remove local data from your device.
- By email: if you cannot access the app, contact info@marioiannotta.com and we will assist with deletion where applicable.
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active Claybook Pro subscription. Cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
California residents
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law. California residents may request access to or deletion of personal information by contacting us at info@marioiannotta.com.
11. Children's privacy
Claybook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use features that transmit personal information to our servers.
If you are between 13 and 17, you may use the Service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian where required by applicable law. We do not verify age at registration; by using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at info@marioiannotta.com.
12. Website
Our website at claybook.studio may use basic analytics or form services when you submit your email for product updates. Those submissions are handled by our form provider and used only to send updates you requested. The mobile app itself does not use browser cookies.
13. Links to other sites
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or by other appropriate means where required by law.
