Ram's head wedge 500 g
The ram's head (or "bull's head") method is the other major wedging technique. It uses a symmetric rocking motion instead of a spiral.
Grab 500 g and focus on the rocking push: heels of both hands pressing forward simultaneously, then fold back.
What to feel for
- A smooth, rhythmic rocking (not jerky)
- The clay stays in one cohesive mass (no tearing at the fold)
- After 30 strokes, the lump should look like… well, a ram's head from above
Common mistake
Using only your arms. Same as spiral wedging: lean your torso into it.
