Slip trail a decorative pattern on a pot
Move from lines on a tile to a design on a three-dimensional form.
The task
Use a slip trailer to apply a raised decorative pattern on a leather-hard pot:
- Dots, swirls, a floral motif: your choice
- Lines should be smooth, raised, and unbroken
- The pattern should complement the pot's shape
Working on curves
- Gravity works differently on vertical surfaces (lines may drip if slip is too thin)
- Work on the top half first, let it firm, then rotate and do the bottom
- Use a banding wheel to keep the pot rotating smoothly
The feel of good slip trailing
Confident, flowing lines that look like they were easy to make. (Even though they weren't.)
