Throw a drop lid

A drop lid sits inside the gallery: it drops in and sits level. It's the most common type for kitchen jars and sugar bowls.

What to throw

• A flat or slightly domed disc with a raised flange on the underside that drops into the gallery
• A knob or handle on top for lifting

Specifications

• The flange diameter matches your gallery measurement
• The lid sits perfectly level (no rocking)
• The knob is attached securely (score and slip!)

Test fit

Try it on the jar at leather hard. It should:

• Drop in with a satisfying click
• Sit flush with the jar rim
• Lift out easily by the knob

If it rocks, the flange isn't round. True it up on the wheel.
