Brush-glaze a detailed piece

Flat surfaces are easy. Curves, handles, and carved details? That's where brushing gets tricky.

The challenge

Brush-glaze a pot that has:

• Curves (interior of bowls)
• Handles or protrusions
• Carved or textured surfaces

Apply three coats, working glaze into all recesses.

Problem areas to watch

• Inside carved lines: glaze loves to pool here and drip. Use less glaze in textured areas.
• Handle undersides: easy to miss. Approach from multiple angles.
• Rim transitions: where the inside meets the outside. Easy to leave thin.
• Raised areas: glaze slides off. May need an extra half-coat.

Assessment after firing

• No bare spots anywhere (flip it upside down and check)
• No heavy pooling in carved lines (running or crawling)
• Even coverage on raised areas (not starved/thin)
