Build a large vase from three sections

Three sections. One cohesive form. This is how studio potters make pieces that are 50+ cm tall.

The plan

  1. Base section: wide, stable, with a thick rim for joining
  2. Belly section: the widest part. Match diameter to base rim and neck base.
  3. Neck section: narrowing upward to the final rim

Target: at least 30 cm tall when assembled.

Assembly order

  1. Join base + belly (let set for an hour before proceeding)
  2. Join belly + neck

All joins must be

  • Structural (these are load-bearing connections)
  • Smoothed inside and outside
  • Proportioned so the finished form has graceful curves

This is master-level

If the proportions look good, the joins are invisible, and it survives firing, congratulations. Most potters take months to get comfortable with three-section work.
