Conquering the Wheel · Centering the Clay

Medium

Center 300 g

Slightly more mass, slightly more resistance.

Center 300 g. Then cone up and down once, and settle back into a centered mound. Hold still for 10 seconds.

The extra challenge

Coning and re-centering is harder than centering fresh clay. The clay has memory: if it went off-center during the cone, you need to bring it back.

Key technique

Lock your elbows into your body. Let the wheel do the rotating. You provide steady, inward pressure. Don't chase the clay; let it come to you.
