Set up your glazing station with PPE

Glazes contain silica, metal oxides, and other materials you absolutely do not want to breathe or ingest. Safety setup is non-negotiable.

Assemble your station

• Respirator: N95 minimum (P100 for dry mixing). Do the seal test: put it on, breathe in, it should suck against your face.
• Gloves: nitrile or rubber. Especially for mixing.
• Apron: keeps glaze off your clothes (and therefore out of your washing machine)
• Eye protection: for mixing and pouring
• Ventilation: open windows, fan running, or ideally a dedicated spray booth

The drill

Put on your full PPE setup and practice working in it:

• Can you see clearly?
• Can you grip tongs comfortably with gloves?
• Is your respirator fogging your glasses? (Adjust the nose bridge)

Get comfortable now, not when you're handling a bucket of glaze.
