Trim a wide shallow bowl foot ring
Wide, shallow bowls (pasta bowls, serving bowls) need extra foot stability because their center of gravity is spread out.
The challenge
- The foot must be wide enough to prevent tipping (wider than a standard bowl foot)
- But not so wide that it looks clunky
- The interior trimming should follow the bowl's interior curve
Test it aggressively
Set the bowl on a table and press down on the rim at various points. A wide bowl with a narrow foot will tip. Find the minimum foot width that makes it completely stable.
This is an engineering problem as much as an aesthetic one.
