Dip a full set of mugs consistently
Consistency under repetition. This is what separates hobby potters from makers who sell their work.
The challenge
Dip six bisque mugs in the same glaze with a consistent 2–3 second count. All six should have visually identical glaze thickness after firing.
Technique focus
- Same grip pressure on the tongs every time
- Same entry angle every time
- Same count (out loud!) every time
- Same smooth removal motion every time
After firing
Line up all six. The glaze color and surface should be indistinguishable. If one is noticeably different, figure out what changed. Did your count drift? Did you pause on removal? Did the glaze settle between dips?
The truth
Tiny inconsistencies are inevitable. The goal is minimizing them until they're invisible to anyone but you.
