Pour glaze over a bowl exterior

For large bowls or pots that don't fit in your glaze bucket, pouring over the outside is the answer.

Steps

1. Hold the bowl upside-down over a basin (two fingers inside, thumb on the foot)
2. Pour glaze from a jug over the exterior in one smooth pass
3. Rotate the bowl as you pour so all sides are covered
4. Let excess drip off, then set down

Aim for

• Even coverage with no bare streaks
• No double-thick overlap where the pour started/ended
• No drips running into the foot area

The overlap problem

Where your pour starts and ends often gets a double coat. Solve this by pouring quickly and rotating smoothly: the start and end should blend seamlessly.

This takes practice. Do it on a few test pieces before glazing your best bowl.
