Throw a dinner plate (750 g)
The dinner plate. 22–24 cm across. This is a real test of floor compression and patience.
Specifications
- 22–24 cm diameter
- Even floor throughout (check with a rib: no bumps or ridges)
- Clean, defined rim
- No S-cracks visible when you pull it off the bat later
Critical drying protocol
Plates warp because the rim dries before the center. To avoid this:
- Cover loosely with plastic immediately after throwing
- Dry slowly over several days
- Flip it onto a flat surface when it's firm enough to handle
The truth about plates
Most beginners lose their first few plates to S-cracks. Don't be discouraged; just compress harder next time.
